Road Department reports asphalt price, active pipe replacement and routine shoulder work

Mark Heyliger briefed the committee on day-to-day operations and several active projects. He reported that hot asphalt plants are open and that asphalt is priced at $73 per ton, with approximately 120 tons per month used per garage. He described ongoing right-of-way brush clearing and shoulder cutting to keep water off the roadways and discussed cleanup work on Hickman Park Drive where sand had to be removed with a loader.
Heyliger also described environmental and operational constraints on culvert work: the Warren Woods replacement involves a 48" pipe because the stream supports trout and must allow fish movement. He noted the Southwest District Council meeting will be hosted May 11 at the Health Department conference room and that he will circulate the agenda to commissioners.
