IT director proposes GPS extenders for ambulances; resolution pulled for EMS input

Information Technology Director Matt Ury told the Finance Committee that ambulances parked in barns or bases often lose GPS signals, which can prevent the 911 system from recognizing vehicle locations. He said the county would purchase GPS extender equipment to be installed by the IT Department as a one-time solution.
Purchasing Agent Chris O’Connor described a recent incident where the CAD system did not recognize an ambulance that was in town because it lacked a GPS signal and instead identified a different rig as the closest available unit. The committee agreed to pull the resolution to obtain additional input from EMS staff (Katie Dean and Jim Lee) before moving forward; no vote was taken on the equipment purchase.
