The Raleigh County Commission voted to approve a one-year extension of the county trash-collection contract with Howie's Enterprises, Inc., doing business as EcoWaste Solutions. County staff said the change follows an acquisition and that operations will continue under the familiar Howie's brand while the ownership has shifted to EcoWaste.
Evan McMillan of Public Works explained the transition, saying, “So this contract is the renewal of the, Riley County trash,” and noted that EcoWaste is running the service now while keeping Howie's name on vehicles. The board moved and seconded the extension; the motion was approved on a voice vote. The county clerk was directed to sign the extension paperwork.
The contract renewal was presented as a straightforward continuity of service; commissioners asked procedural questions about the scope of services and how the company will present its name on trucks going forward. No public protest or competing bids were recorded in the meeting record.
