Sheriff's representative says contract cities will get six additional deputies

A representative from the sheriff's office updated the council on staffing and recent calls for service in March.
"So we will move things around...we were asking for 10 to bring up the per deputy per thousand resident. Currently, we're sitting at 0.54 to get up to the 0.72 number...the commission essentially moved forward...the contract cities will receive the 10 with a net gain of 6," the sheriff's representative (Speaker 9) said, describing an operating and capital allocation change. He also reported two lateral sworn hires from neighboring agencies and one new hire dismissed during field training.
The representative noted a small number of residential burglaries during the month and encouraged residents to secure doors as warmer weather arrives. The council thanked the sheriff's office for its service and staffing efforts.
