Council hears traffic study, staff recommends keeping Rowlett Road at 40 mph

Jun 1, 2026

After data analysis from radar sensors and a GPS traffic feed, police and engineering staff told the council that Rowlett Road lacks a speeding problem severe enough to justify lowering the posted limit; staff recommended retaining 40 mph while continuing targeted enforcement and engineering fixes.

Police and traffic staff presented the results of a multi‑tool study and urged the council to retain the existing 40 mph speed limit on Rowlett Road. The presentation included rotating radar sensor data and an "Urban SDK" GPS feed used to cross‑check volumes and speeds; staff said focused enforcement briefly reduced speeds but the underlying averages and crash profile did not support a five‑mile reduction. "The speed study that we did back then didn't really identify that we had a significant speeding problem. In fact, we don't have a significant speeding problem," a staff presenter said.
