Superintendent reports enrollment rise and outlines AVID training plan

Superintendent Weeks and Director of Education William Dyer told the board Jan. 12 that district enrollment has grown year-over-year and described AVID implementation across campuses.
Weeks said district enrollment on 01/08/2026 was 2,784 students, up 48 from the same date in 2025 (2,736). "High school is up 33," Weeks said as part of a school-by-school breakdown that also showed Olmsville up 24, Turner down 9, Cloverdale up 4, and junior high down 5.
Dyer reviewed AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) programming and implementation: 70% of instructional staff have AVID training, the district uses AVID strategies K–12 (elementary uses whole-school strategies while high school offers an AVID elective), and the district will narrow training to focus on elective teachers and onboarding new staff. "One of the things that we really wanna do... is we're gonna really narrow it down, and we're gonna hyperfocus on our AVID elective teachers," Dyer said.
Board members asked how long AVID has been in place; Dyer said about 10 years. Trustees also discussed where AVID is required versus elective as students advance; Dyer described whole-school elementary implementation and elective courses at the secondary level.
