Parent asks RISD to suspend elementary Schoology requirement, citing complexity for young learners

During the public comment period, Jonathan Anderson identified himself as a parent with three children in Richardson ISD and asked the district to "suspend the use requirement of Schoology learning management system in the elementary schools to reduce digital assignment over complication, improve grades of district students, and implement an age appropriate learning management system that encourages social and educational growth."

Anderson said the district’s current environment requires parents to navigate multiple applications and cited a recent instance where a required entry had a paywall he could not access while trying to help his child. He said he has been contacted by the technology team and expects to continue discussions; he also referenced academic literature he plans to use for a paper on early learners and educational technology.

Board staff thanked Anderson for speaking and noted the technology team had begun conversations. The board did not take immediate action during the meeting; Anderson’s request was recorded as public comment.
