Committee asked about tech refresh, turf and deferred maintenance as budget transfers rise

Budget staff told the committee that transfers to Special Revenue and Capital Projects funds are elevated to cover planned technology refresh cycles and turf replacement schedules. Pete Bejarano said the district has a substantial number of Chromebooks, iPads and staff devices due for replacement and that the five-year plan used January prices, which have since risen.
Committee members questioned whether turf funding should be prioritized while other maintenance needs remain. Staff clarified capital project funds are restricted to large building replacements (roofs, boilers, HVAC) and that routine maintenance and smaller projects live in other funds. Jeff Gibbs discussed warranties and refresh rates and said staff shop for best prices while recognizing market volatility; Superintendent Klinger acknowledged the transfer amounts are higher partly because prior years underfunded planned set-asides.
