Rolling Meadows council signals support to dissolve Economic Development Committee in straw vote

City Manager Rob Sabo presented a staff-led alternative to the volunteer Economic Development Committee (EDC). Mayor Sanoica's straw vote recorded 7 in favor and 0 opposed to dissolving the EDC; council will rely on a staff Economic Development Team to preliminarily review incentive applications.

City Manager Rob Sabo asked the Committee of the Whole on Jan. 20 to consider eliminating the city's long-standing Economic Development Committee and move economic development responsibilities to a staff-led model. The committee's duties are codified in Sec. 78-99 of the City Code, which the minutes read into the record as directing the EDC to "develop services and programs to attract new and to expand existing business activities" and to submit an annual report to the City Council.
