Council reviews Comprehensive Safe School Plan; members request clarifications on intercoms, communications and training

Agenda item 6.1 focused on the district’s Comprehensive Safe School Plan. Annette reviewed the plan and noted suspension rates on pages 8–9 are lower than state averages and that the district action plan (page 10) remains unchanged; she said she will review all listed items thoroughly before the plan returns to the council.
Nancy asked specifically about page 13, item 6a, and whether a site intercom system could be integrated with classroom sound systems. Annette said administration had briefly discussed providing cell phones for teachers. Melissa noted that during lockdowns staff have been told to keep cell phones on them to be able to email and confirm student safety and to contact the SOS team for behavior assistance. Tina recommended two-way radios as an additional option, particularly to reach teachers on recess or if cell towers fail.
Committee members also discussed updates elsewhere in the plan: PBIS expectation stations (pg. 15), epi-pen training for all staff by January (pg. 18), annual staff entries (pg. 68), vests for certificated staff for emergencies (pg. 70), and an updated campus map (pg. 72). Annette asked members to submit any further suggested changes; she said the plan will be updated and shown to the team again for a formal vote.
