Comal County approves $271,000 for Watson Lane East study to advance schematic design

Comal County Road and Bridge staff asked the court to approve a line-item transfer to fund the remaining phases of the Watson Lane East study, and the court approved the funding on May 29.
"This is the project we started back in 2024," county staff said, describing a two-phase effort where Phase 1 is a needs study and Phase 2 ends with a schematic recommendation, right-of-way widths and acquisition needs. Staff said the cost for the additional phases is $271,000 and that money is available from contingency savings after asphalt costs came in under budget.
Commissioners noted the project serves as a connector between FM 1101 and I-35 and said incremental connector projects can relieve congestion while larger intersections remain years away from improvement. The court approved the transfer and directed staff to continue design work.
