Comal County commissioners opened a 9:00 a.m. budget workshop with an overview of the 2026 departmental requests, which the chair said "the 2026 department request total $162,500,000." The chair described a funds comparison showing the general fund slightly lower than 2025 while other funds rose, and singled out corrections, public safety and the justice system as comprising more than half of county expenditures.
The presentation listed personnel and capital highlights: 23 full-time positions requested in the general fund, two in other funds, and capital and noncapital equipment requests totaling just over $12,000,000, including vehicles and right-of-way purchases. The court recessed after presentations and follow-up questions from commissioners.
