Keystone approves APEAK Asphalt contracts for West Keystone and Montezuma underpass work

Keystone’s Town Council voted to approve Resolution 2026‑25 to hire APEAK Asphalt for two road‑repair contracts: an overlay on West Keystone Road and a mill‑and‑2‑inch overlay at the Montezuma Road underpass.

"The first one is for Overlay on West Keystone Road, from the Highway 6 intersection to across the bridge… for a total cost, but not to exceed $174,109.17," the town manager said when presenting the contracts, and he described the second contract not to exceed $153,201.29. Council members asked where funds would come from; the manager said roughly half of the project funds would be drawn from the voter‑approved 2% lodging tax and the balance from the town’s general fund/public works budget.

Councilmembers discussed contractor availability and the town’s remaining capital budget; one member noted approximately $500,000 remains budgeted for new projects that year, subject to contractor capacity. After brief discussion and a motion, council approved the contract authorization by voice vote. Staff said the two contracts will be reviewed by the town attorney before signing.
