Committee backs temporary reclassification of assessor staff to appraiser 2

The assessor reported that an employee has been performing appraiser 2 duties for roughly nine months and asked the committee to approve reclassification from Appraiser 1 to Appraiser 2 for the remainder of the fiscal year. Dennis (Assessor) said the short-term cost for the remainder of this fiscal year would be modest: he estimated roughly $816 for wages and benefits over the next four months and a roughly $6,000 increase in the next year's budget if fully budgeted as a 2.

Committee members asked about certification differences and whether the change would set a precedent for other employees; Dennis said the employee had completed required training and had passed a personal property exam and that the reclassification reflects actual duties performed. Amanda moved and Rex seconded a motion to forward the reclassification recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners; the motion carried by voice vote.
