Superintendent details CIP projects: safety systems, boilers, Spring Creek CTE completion

Clayton Anderson, the district superintendent, reviewed the five-year capital improvement program and provided status updates on multiple projects.
Anderson said school-safety work — communications systems, alert badges, cameras and TCUs — is largely complete for outlying schools and Spring Creek is finished. "So we're we're really in the wrapping up stages of that project," he said. He added the district is pursuing federal grants and local letters of support to fund single-point entry projects and perimeter fencing where schools lack secured perimeters.
On building systems, Anderson confirmed the Elko High School boiler project has been awarded and is moving forward and that a Grammar No. 2 mechanical upgrade was also awarded. Regarding the Jackpot mechanical upgrade, district staff explained the project moved from a larger mechanical replacement to more targeted repairs after internal work restored much of the system's functioning. A facilities staff member described the original boilers as old — "since '85," he said — and said a retrofit or higher-efficiency replacement could be considered depending on design and cost estimates.
Anderson also noted the Carlin playground was recently completed with a mix of a Nevada Gold Mines donation, in-kind contributions from the Carlin complex and district labor. He said the district will return with a prioritized CIP draft for committee review before the next oversight meeting.
