Elko County reports progress on addressing, dispatch and interagency emergency coordination

Elko County Emergency Manager Lee Cavness briefed the commission on emergency-services improvements, reporting that county GIS updated or corrected 260 addresses in 2025 and 39 addresses so far in 2026 to improve emergency response accuracy. Cavness said dispatch staffing was increased to three dispatchers per shift and the regional communications center processed 62,844 incidents in 2025.
Cavness described planned technical improvements, including evaluating a dedicated Elko County E-911 server and exploring pilot integration through another county's perimeter platform; he said the county will continue coordination with Intermountain Ambulance and partner agencies to strengthen field-to-dispatch data. Commissioners asked about outreach to rural residents and the difficulty of converting post-office-box-based addresses to physical addresses for emergency response.
