Commissioners keep district-based appointments for planning boards, set nomination window

After staff questions, the Board reached consensus to continue district-based appointments for the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment and to allow the district's commissioner two or three regular meetings to nominate a candidate before others are considered.
Planning Director Adam Tyson asked the board whether it wished to continue district-based appointments for Planning Board and Board of Adjustment members or switch to an at-large model. The Board reached a consensus to continue its current practice of allowing at least one member of each board to be appointed from each commissioner district and to allow the district's commissioner a set number of regular meetings (two or three) to nominate a candidate for a vacancy.
Board members also asked staff to provide an updated list of boards and committees before appointment requests that includes the vacancy district, appointment and expiration dates, and number of terms served or eligibility for reappointment. The decision keeps the existing district representation practice in place pending any formal ordinance change.
