Commission adopts change to county compensation policy affecting introductory period steps
The commission voted to allow countywide step increases during employees' introductory periods for new hires while limiting automatic introductory period step increases for promoted or transferred employees; the policy change takes effect June 9, 2026.

Jennifer Taylor of Ellis County Human Resources presented proposed updates to the county compensation policy and said the changes aim to maintain competitive pay while reducing pay compression. Taylor said the revisions would allow newly hired employees to receive countywide step increases during their introductory period but would limit automatic introductory period step increases to new hires only; promoted, transferred or demoted employees would not receive the additional automatic step.
