Jefferson County posts RFQ for plumbing and electrical inspectors; code adoptions planned May 4

John Senn, Jefferson County building official, told commissioners on April 15 that the county has posted an RFQ for plumbing and electrical inspectors and plan reviewers and expects to adopt updated codes in early May.
"We anticipate adopting plumbing and electrical code on May 4th," Senn said, and noted the RFQ posted on the county website is set to close on May 6, 2026. Senn said there has been one plumbing applicant so far and no electrical applicants; if submissions are insufficient the county will request permission from the Board of County Commissioners to keep the RFQ open longer.
Kevin Larsen, a commissioner, described the county's intended code adoptions: "The state has adopted the 2023 NEC (National Electric Code). And then for plumbing it will be 2017 Idaho Plumbing Code will be adopted." Senn added that the county's contract language has been approved by the county attorney and staff are working on compensation and a fee-schedule update; he estimated about 30 days to update fees and another 30 days to file the State notice before coordinating with cities.
The board did not vote on hiring or contracts at this workshop. Staff urged anyone interested in the RFQ to apply through the county website.
