The full story

The Shelby County pilot review committee voted to amend a draft resolution asking the County Commission to impose a 180-day moratorium on new pilot agreements and pilot extensions affecting housing. Commissioner Brooks presented a consolidated draft, which she said "says resolution requesting a 180 moratorium on the issuance of any new pilot, including extensions for affordable housing ... impacting county government property tax revenue and fiscal stability." The committee debated whether the moratorium should reference "affordable housing" specifically or refer to housing more broadly; members agreed to broaden the language to avoid excluding projects with housing components.
