Commissioner asks county to clarify data-center information on its website

During other business, Commissioner Darren Jackson said he received calls and emails from constituents about material on the county website related to data centers and asked whether staff could present the information in a way that did not appear to promote data centers on behalf of Butler County. "Some information appeared to come from entities promoting data centers," Jackson said, urging a clearer presentation that includes potential risks as well as benefits.
County Administrator Will Johnson responded that the website links were provided from outside sources including the Department of Commerce, the City of El Dorado and El Dorado Inc., and staff tries to link to information from local entities or materials gathered by the County. Johnson said staff is preparing regulations related to data centers and hopes to have materials ready for the Planning Commission and County Commission next month.
