Residents urge Board to preserve town Recreation programs amid staffing changes

Multiple residents told the Board of Selectmen on June 9 they were concerned about cuts to Dracut's Recreation Department and asked the board to find options to keep programs running; Town Manager Kate Hodges said youth sports "would still go on as those are completely self-sufficient."

At the June 9 Board of Selectmen meeting, several residents asked the board to reconsider cuts to the Recreation Department and to develop a transition plan for remaining services. Eileen Ryan told the board she was "saddened by the recent news regarding the Recreation Department," saying the town is understaffed and asking whether anything could be done to keep programs running. Dara Ryan said playing on town teams "is very important to him" and asked the board not to close the department.
