Rhonda Granger, candidate for Point Roberts Water District No. 4, told forum attendees she was surprised to learn the community lacks a local water source and depends on Canada. Earlier in the session Grant Hampton — who had discussed environmental stewardship and sewer connections to Canada — withdrew his candidacy, saying that with Granger in the race there was no need for him to continue. Residents asked candidates about water resiliency in power outages and disasters; Granger said she would research resiliency options (including gravity-fed solutions) and work on responsible, transparent spending if elected.
