PRCAC members said Whatcom County Parks recently assigned a new planner to follow up on Maple Beach County Park improvements and that the local Chamber of Commerce continues to express interest in advancing the project.
Committee member Elliot said the parks department "just appointed a new planner" who will dig into the project and coordinate with local stakeholders. Members discussed bringing county parks, PRCAC, the chamber and Point Roberts Parks together to define a scope that could attract matching grants and be phased over several years rather than relying on the entire TBD balance for a single large capital project. One member noted existing memoranda of understanding between Point Roberts Parks and Whatcom County Parks for Maple Beach activity and suggested starting with shovel‑ready, lower‑cost elements such as signage or restroom improvements that can be matched in grant applications.
The group asked Elliot to follow up with the parks planner and report back at the next meeting with a clearer timeline and potential funding pathways.
