Attorney Aaron Schmoller and counsel for the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township explained that two parcels donated to the district in 2020 remained taxable because of a recorded life estate and errors in the transfer paperwork; the parcels were subsequently changed to tax-exempt status going forward. "We did file a form 130 on both parcels for the 2 years," counsel said, and asked the board to grant exemptions for 2023 and 2024.
