State board approves redistricting plan affecting USD 334; local approvals and votes remain

Dr. Curtis Steven, USD 239 Superintendent, briefed commissioners on a redistricting plan approved Sept. 10 by the Kansas State Board of Education that affects USD 334 and Southern Cloud County districts. The plan will be subject to a November vote by Southern Cloud County School District citizens; if approved by Southern Cloud voters and each of the five affected districts, the change returns to the state board for final approval.
Dr. Steven said USD 239 would acquire approximately 54 square miles in assessed valuation under the proposed boundaries. County Clerk Tammi Cox clarified that the 54 square miles are outside Ottawa County and therefore will not change Ottawa Countys assessed valuations.
