Wakulla students bring state recognition for 4‑H community pride project

Emily Zack, a senior at Wakulla High School and president of Future Leaders of Wakulla, told the county commission the club’s community pride project was named one of the top six projects in Florida 4‑H and was recognized at 4‑H University on the University of Florida campus.
"My name is Emily Zack, and I am a senior at Wakulla High School and president of the future leaders of Wakulla," Zack said, describing two youth‑led events — a teen town hall and a drug‑free “Sunset Social” — that aimed to engage students on mental health, substance‑use prevention and school safety.
Zack said the project led to a new countywide campaign, “Prevention Starts With Me,” intended to encourage sustained youth and community participation. She thanked partner organizations including Wakulla 4‑H, the Wakulla County Coalition for Youth, DISC Village, the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, the Wakulla County Health Department and the Miami DEA office for support that helped the team represent Wakulla County at the state level.
County leaders praised the students’ work and the commissioners welcomed the recognition as an example of how local investment in youth programs can build leadership and community involvement.
