Arts council wins approval for mural along Connection Trail at Bear Shell Lane

Leah Cain, president of the Arts and Cultural Council of Decatur County, asked the board for permission to install a mural along the Connection Trail at Bear Shell Lane, saying the committee has selected an artist and finalized a design and funding. "My name is Leah Cain, and I'm the president of the arts and cultural council of Decatur County," she told commissioners and said the project is funded through a grant from Visit Greensburg. The board voted to approve the installation.

Commissioners reviewed renderings and raised practical questions about paint and ongoing maintenance. One commissioner asked about surface safety: "Now I I'm assuming, it's a special paint," and staff and the applicant discussed sealing options and long-term maintenance. The artist selected for the project, Emily Rosales, and committee member Kate Acra were present. Project proponents said they hope to begin work this month and will provide renderings and maintenance details to county staff for final coordination.

The mural will occupy one side of the trail near Bear Shell Lane and continue across to the opposite side; funding comes from Visit Greensburg. Officials instructed applicants to coordinate directly with county staff and follow any permitting or sealing recommendations before work begins.
