Committee hears update on BLM Greater Sage‑grouse plan; consultant flags map accuracy concerns

The White Pine County Natural Resources Advisory Committee received an update on the Bureau of Land Management's Greater Sage‑grouse Resource Management Plan Amendment on March 17.
Jeremy Drew of Resource Concepts, Inc. outlined the amendment's history and said ongoing litigation risk could suspend the amendment. He emphasized that the amendment relied on model maps and warned that map accuracy was crucial because the designations guide federal land‑use decisions affecting energy projects. "The maps were just models and could be updated, but the challenge was reversing the designations when needed," Drew said.
Moira Kolada of the Nevada Department of Wildlife said NDOW was using state maps rather than the BLM's maps and did not have a formal statement to provide at the meeting. The committee agreed to await an April meeting with the BLM before recommending any county action or formal comment to federal agencies.
