Peekskill joins county hazard-mitigation update; staff to coordinate interdepartmental input

Police Chief (speaker 14) updated the council on the Westchester County hazard mitigation plan update and urged continued municipal participation so future FEMA and other grants can be routed through the county to municipalities. The chief said the current plan expires in December 2026 and that county-level coordination is now required for grant eligibility.
City staff requested meetings with DPW, water, planning, fire, the sustainability coordinator and the safety commission to identify projects the city may seek funding for and to ensure projects are included in the hazard mitigation plan. Council asked staff to bring a draft emergency action plan and indicated there will be opportunities for public input into the draft.
"The current plan that we are in expires in December 2026...it has to come through the county and then be filtered down to the municipalities," the police chief said.
