District opens community naming process for new Northwest Maple Grove elementary

The board received an update on the new elementary school in Northwest Maple Grove and the community-driven naming timeline.
"Today at this work session, we're just giving you a little bit more detail," said Kaye Ball, executive director of community relations. Ball said the district opened a ThoughtExchange on Aug. 4 to solicit name ideas from community members, students and future families; the exchange closes Sept. 11, a representative committee will review submissions and the superintendent will bring a recommendation to the board for a Sept. 23 vote. Ball reported that so far the exchange has had 872 participants, roughly 350 name submissions and about 15,000 ratings.
Staff noted construction progress and a plan to share logo and mascot design work with future families prior to finalizing branding in October–November. Community members were given email and phone contacts to submit questions and participate in the process.
