High school exit interviews and 90% attendance rule credited with boosting senior attendance

Assistant Principal Tyler Woodrow told the board that senior exit interviews are a meaningful graduation requirement and that students who fail an interview are given feedback and additional opportunities to pass. "If they don't pass, they bring them back in explaining what they need to do better... we have them come in after school, with one of our counselors," he said.
Woodrow also highlighted extracurricular trips as incentives: the district takes a minimum of 50 students per trip and he said 247 students signed up for an upcoming zoo trip, requiring two buses. He emphasized student reporting of potential threats as a key safety deterrent and noted the district's three-year senior attendance policy (90% required to participate in graduation) has raised senior attendance to roughly 94% this year.
