During the Jan. 16 work session, district staff and board members singled out students receiving special education services as a subgroup with persistent gaps in both attendance and academic achievement. The minutes note Innovations Academy as an exception where special education students outperform peers, but staff said district‑wide improvements will likely require additional staffing, professional development, and systemic changes.
