Board adopts social-studies curriculum recommendations for multiple grade spans

The Pendleton School District Board approved teacher committee recommendations for social-studies curriculum on May 11, 2026. Matt Yoshioka, Director of Curriculum, explained that teachers reviewed materials from the Oregon Department of Education–approved list and made recommendations. For grades 1–5 teachers recommended Social Studies Essentials by Discovery Education (not on the ODE approved list, which would make this an independent adoption); grades 6–8 were recommended to adopt myWorld Interactive by SAVVAS (on the ODE list), and grades 9–12 Oregon Civics by McGraw Hill (on the ODE list).
Yoshioka said there would be no kindergarten adoption at this time and that teachers will continue to use the 2019 McGraw-Hill materials for U.S. and World history. Director Patrick Gregg moved to approve the recommendations and Director Jill Pace seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
