Board adopts social-studies curriculum recommendations for multiple grade spans
Teacher committees recommended and the board approved Social Studies Essentials for grades 1–5 (independent adoption), myWorld Interactive for grades 6–8, and Oregon Civics for grades 9–12; no new adoptions for kindergarten or U.S./World history were made.

The Pendleton School District Board approved teacher committee recommendations for social-studies curriculum on May 11, 2026. Matt Yoshioka, Director of Curriculum, explained that teachers reviewed materials from the Oregon Department of Education–approved list and made recommendations. For grades 1–5 teachers recommended Social Studies Essentials by Discovery Education (not on the ODE approved list, which would make this an independent adoption); grades 6–8 were recommended to adopt myWorld Interactive by SAVVAS (on the ODE list), and grades 9–12 Oregon Civics by McGraw Hill (on the ODE list).
