SJSHS reports 37 graduates, athletic and testing updates

Blaine Lazar, principal at Santiam Junior/Senior High School, updated the board on graduation, test administration and spring activities.
Lazar said 37 students graduated and that one student will attend summer school; he estimated the high-school graduation rate should be in the upper eighties. He cited a full slate of senior activities, a large audience at 8th-grade promotion, and numerous spring events including trips and scholarship night.
On athletics, Lazar said the boys baseball team reached the state playoffs (ranked 20th) and the girls softball program sustained participation despite a small roster, crediting coaching and community support. He acknowledged testing fatigue and said grading/scoring was still in process; he offered that the district should continue efforts to increase academic rigor and keep students engaged on campus.
