Engineers explained that the original design extended the sheet‑pile alignment past multiple gangways and required reinforced beams and significant utility relocations. Tony Boyd said the geotechnical review and cost estimates made that outboard alignment less attractive and staff have developed a revised alignment that keeps much of the work behind the seawall or under sidewalks.
The revised plan would remove fewer gangways and preserve resident access longer during construction, but staff said it must be cost‑effective and provide required toe protection at the most eroded sections of the wall. Committee members asked for cost comparisons and contractor input; staff said design sketches and unit prices are being prepared for review before the next meeting.
