Mayor urges 'vision zero' and intersection redesign after Algonquin Road fatality

Sanoica cited a City Engineer memorandum in the meeting packet recommending a near‑term package of measures for the Algonquin/Meadowbrook intersection: realignment, intersection widening and a dedicated right‑turn lane. According to the memorandum summarized at the meeting, the single‑lane approach and lack of signalization at Meadowbrook contribute to peak‑period left‑turn delays and queues that can extend onto Meadowbrook; the proposed changes are intended to improve visibility, reduce turning delays and better accommodate truck turning movements.
Councilmembers raised the intersection report as part of related agenda items, and Alderperson Koehler asked for the traffic report to be re‑examined in light of the recent fatality. The City said the planned improvements are expected to reduce the frequency and length of queues tied to nearby businesses and special events, and staff encouraged follow‑up questions before votes on related land‑use items.
