Draft e-device ordinance would add 'e-moto' category, keep IVC low-speed definitions

Management Analyst Erik Berg told the Council that staff developed a draft ordinance regulating electric devices after consultation with the Wheaton Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission. He said the draft "maintains the Illinois Vehicle Code (IVC) definitions of 'low-speed electric bicycle' and 'low-speed electric scooter.'" The draft also creates two local definitions: an "electric scooter" (e-scooter) described as a device distinct from a low-speed e-scooter with a maximum speed of 20 miles per hour, and an "out-of-class electric vehicle," or "e-moto," for devices that do not fit the e-bike or e-scooter definitions.
