Comal County fair organizers preview 2025 fair, expand youth and special-needs programming

Fair organizers and county extension staff briefed commissioners on the 2025 Comal County Fair & Rodeo schedule and programming. The barbecue cook-off will kick off festivities Sept. 20; the fair runs Sept. 24'28 with pet parades and youth events, and organizers noted the extension office's education programs and partnerships with schools will support a robust youth presence.
Jason Mangold of the Comal County Extension Office said last year about 15,000 people came through the youth barn and staff have planted more than 3,000 plants for children to tend during the fair. Lauren Strom described the Special Heart livestock show, now integrated into the fair and scheduled for Thursday with school tours bringing approximately 60 special-needs students via NBISD and New Braunfels ISD buses.
"The special heart show is a livestock show designed to help special needs children be able to exhibit lambs and goats in an opportunity that they might not have otherwise," Strom said, describing the program's goal to give children a cheering audience and exhibition opportunity.
