District presentation: TAPR shows elementary strength; middle grades identified as focus

District staff presented the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) and walked trustees through grade-level outcomes, accountability indicators and district goals. The presenter said elementary performance remains a district strength, pointing specifically to grade 3 reading and math as outperforming state and Region 10 averages. “Elementary performance remains a strength for us, particularly in grade 3 reading and math,” the presenter said.
Staff explained CCMR and EOC performance and noted dual-credit participation (about 55.1% in 2023–24 and 53.5% in 2022–23). Attendance rates were reported above region and state levels for 2022–23 and 2023–24, and dropout rates for the Class of 2024 were low (reported at roughly 1.3%). The presenter emphasized equity and an action plan focusing on increasing students reaching the 'masters' level, strengthening depth of learning beyond minimum proficiency, aligning curriculum (math implementation year next year, reading following year), and targeting middle-grades interventions to address pandemic-related learning gaps.
Trustees did not take a formal vote on the TAPR; staff said they will bring instructional materials for math to the March meeting for approval.
