The Comal County Commissioners Court approved a memorandum of agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that allows county deputies and corrections officers to perform warrant-service functions and notify ICE of detainees under the 287(g) Warrant Service Officer Program.
Sheriff Reynolds described the choice as the county's selected compliance option under changes in state law this year. "Governor Abbott... signed into law senate bill 8 this year," the sheriff said, and explained the program trains deputies and corrections staff to serve warrants and notify ICE. The court voted to authorize Sheriff Reynolds to sign the agreement.
