Building and Grounds Committee gets update on Rankin solar array; septic survey required

The Building and Grounds Committee of Rankin School District #98 received an update Dec. 16 on the district's proposed ground-mount solar array and its permitting progress.
Dr. Matt Gordon relayed a written update from Dan Maloney of CEDG: "On Nov 5th, the County Zoning Board approved a 15-foot property line setback for the ground-mount solar array under the condition that we complete a site survey of the (4) septic systems, to ensure that the solar array does not come within 5-feet of any part of the septic system." According to the update, David Burling Excavating, Inc. has agreed to complete the survey and site map; once that work is finished CEDG will finalize electrical and structural engineering and then file county permits.
Dr. Gordon said construction could be scheduled as early as late spring or early summer, depending on permitting and the excavator's schedule. Committee members, including Ron Uselton, expressed enthusiasm about moving the project forward given rising energy costs; no permit has been filed with the county yet pending the septic-site survey.
