Elko County GIS adds address points, flags ZIP and mapping errors affecting emergency response

Andrew Meek, Elko County GIS technician, reported that since the last board meeting his office has added 23 address points to county GIS and corrected city annexations in county records.
"Since our last board, we have added 23 address points to the county," Meek said, and he described concentrated work in areas including Wells, Clearwater Estates and JLJ Ranches. Meek said many address points had incorrect ZIP codes in third‑party mapping services and that he is submitting corrections to reduce dispatch errors; he estimated Google corrections typically turn around in four to six business days for the partnership program submission he uses.
Meek also said the biannual data delivery to Motorola/Spelman was completed at the end of February and that he will continue working with other county entities to ensure mapping portions of future purchases integrate with county GIS records. Board members said improving address accuracy will help new county systems such as a five‑year burn permit product to display geo‑referenced permit locations in dispatch.
Meek asked departments to run mapping products by GIS before procurement to avoid later integration work. He said where addresses do not resolve, the burn permit system allows drag‑and‑drop or coordinate entry as a temporary workaround.
