County road superintendent reports dust‑suppression work, material savings and Ruby Valley pit timeline

Price said the county started the magnesium chloride dust suppression program and completed work on Puyallup Valley Road; next is South Ruby Valley where roughly 35 miles of road will be treated. For a separate project on the Huntington Twin Bridges Road (commonly called the 8‑mile road) crews used materials sourced from a private citizen, saving more than $30,000 compared with hauling from commercial suppliers.
Price also said the county is advancing the Ruby Valley pit expansion project; RTC funds were set aside to support that work, which will ultimately be reimbursed by the Forest Service, but construction cannot commence until after July 15 to protect birds in the area.
Commissioners thanked county crews for cost savings and emphasized the challenges of operating extensive rural road networks with constrained budgets.
