Area Planning Commission grants continuance for Dash R Z rezoning; applicant to return Sept. 1

The Area Planning Commission voted unanimously to grant a second continuance for the Dash R Z rezoning request so the applicant can pursue follow‑up conversations with county commissioners about road issues highlighted in the staff report. Staff said the applicant had received the written staff report and was not prepared to address several questions at this hearing.

Staff explained the board's rules allow a single automatic continuance; a second continuance requires suspending the rules by unanimous vote. One committee member pushed back on repeating continuances, saying, "My concern is just people came last time and it was continued. They came this time too. And if they wanna continue it the next time, we're wasting people's time." Staff announced the continued hearing date as Sept. 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the same room.

The commission discussed the tradeoffs applicants face when requesting continuances: withdrawing or denying a case triggers waiting periods that can delay re‑filing (6–12 months), whereas a continuance allows the applicant to re‑advertise and return more fully prepared.
