Committee considers 1,000-foot setback, larger buffers for data centers
Planning staff proposed 1,000-foot separation from residential and agricultural property lines (100 feet from industrial uses); members compared alternatives including a 1,320-foot rule recently adopted by Lebanon and a suggested 2,500-foot buffer for schools and public institutions.

Distance separation and buffering were presented as central tools to reduce visual, noise and vibration impacts from large data centers. Planning Director Christopher Loss described the draft's recommended baseline of 1,000 feet from residential or agricultural property lines and 100 feet from industrial parcels. "The way it was presented in the resolution that went before planning and zoning was 1000 feet from agricultural, residentially or commercially zoned properties," Loss said.
