Commission extends Riley County trash contract after ownership change

The Riley County Commission voted to extend its contract with Howie's Enterprises — doing business as EcoWaste — to continue curbside trash pickup for the county.
Evan McMillan of Public Works explained the change in ownership and operations before the vote: "So this contract is the renewal of the, Riley County trash," he said, adding that the company was being operated under the Howie's name while now owned by EcoWaste. A commissioner moved to approve the extension and the motion was seconded; the board voted in favor and directed the chair to sign the extension.
The discussion focused on continuity of service rather than changes to scope. Commissioners asked questions about the scope and the company’s branding; McMillan told the board that trucks would continue to be run under the Howie's name while ownership and paperwork reflected the EcoWaste acquisition. No public testimony or dissent was recorded during the motion.
