Committee approves final change order for WWTP grit system

Committee members voted to authorize the chairman to sign Change Order No. 9 to address problems with the grit removal system at the Long‑Term Control Plan wastewater treatment plant.
Kevin Gorman told the committee that the initial grit system "was not working properly so they had to get a quick redesign." Gorman said grit — heavy sand and rocky particles that enter the plant with wastewater — must be removed early in treatment, and completion of the change order is needed for the project to move forward with long‑term closing and grant reimbursement. He said the district is still on track to receive a $6.3 million grant that covers roughly half of an approximately $12.6 million project; the grant will be applied as a reimbursement that reduces what the district ultimately owes.
Motion to authorize the chairman to sign Change Order No. 9 was moved by Mr. Fisher, seconded by Mr. Wang and adopted. Committee discussion noted there is grant funding available to cover part of the change order costs but that reimbursement timing requires the district to manage interim cash flow.
