WIC funding secured through continuing resolution; local breastfeeding support group planned

WIC program staff reported April 9 that federal funding for WIC was secured in the continuing resolution passed last Friday by the Senate, providing funding through Sept. 30, 2025. "WIC was fully funded in the continuing resolution that was passed last Friday by the Senate," Amy DuCharme told the board, and the department said the FMNP (Farmer's Market Nutrition Program) checks are expected to arrive mid-May; the amount per family was not specified at the meeting.
Staff also said a breastfeeding peer counselor support group is being planned in Vernon County; the program previously existed in partnership with VMH before COVID and staff will meet with the state next week to begin the approval process. Outreach events were also reported, including Coulee Cap engagement and planned clinic outreach to VMH outlying sites.
